"Cypress in Action" seminar series, now complete.
On June 29th and 30th, Cypress NSW conducted seminars at Newcastle and Rooty Hill in Sydney, for Architects, Building Designers and Builders to look at and discuss different ways that Australian White Cypress can be utilised rather than the traditional flooring and cladding used extensively in these establish market areas.
Our two presenters, Peter Woolard of Studio 101 architects and Gary
Frencham from Frencham Cypress, who collaborate on the projects designed by Peter, spoke firstly on the reasons to specify Cypress, high durability, termite resistance, sustainable supply and aesthetic properties and then looked at its working characteristics, easy of installation, low maintenance and availability.
Together they showed project examples of high architectural appeal, Peter demonstrating a number that had won national design awards, some within harsh terrain applications where the durability and density of Cypress was a determining factor and others where the colour range and sawn textured finishes created features required or favoured by their clients.
Both seminars where well attended and went well after there scheduled closing time as the attendees continued to fire questions about applications they had never previously considered for Cypress.

Bushfire building break through;
Cypress NSW customer, Appalachian Log Homes, has recently made a break through in the testing of timber wall systems for use in Bushfire Prone areas.
Dr. Tracy Wakefield has advised that their continued research, developing Cypress log construction methods for home building, has now been rewarded with a Cypress wall system that has become the first to meet the very strict requirements set by AS 1530.8.2
This means that Appalachian Log Homes should now be able to use this system in conjunction with their building program and provide access to areas of NSW that would normally be bared to timber.
For more information of their system and the testing details, please see the pdf file here.
